this concept reintroduces itself every time magick is reunified (or dramatically simplified, ie when all half the magickians in ubik were put on ice)
this is because you need to give a safe version of magick to people who have a fragile nature
you keep the death on command stuff for yourself, and give the poppets to the unstable apprentix
in other words: you tell the dangerous witch to play with dolls, and give the poison and snakes to the one that’s impartial from being totally dead inside emotionally
